At the artistic Bachelor's programme in Theatre and Performance Making you can specialise in Lighting.
To study Lighting you must master basic lighting techniques, have a strong visual imagination and a desire to work with light artistically and creatively. You will learn to design and actualise lighting concepts and to use light as a dramatic tool in various forms of performing arts. You will also work with video and projection technology.
The conceptual part of the programme is closely connected to the technical part. You will gain insight into the use of different light sources in scenic lighting design and learn to translate ideas and concepts for lighting and video into concrete plans, equipment lists and pre-visualisations. You will work practically with scenic lighting systems, sets and stage lighting programming.
As well as acquiring new practical skills, you will learn to use analytical methods as a starting point for your work and to reflect on your own practice.
Throughout the programme, your expertise will be brought into play in co-creative processes with students who are on other specialisations and programmes. You will work closely with other performing arts disciplines to create productions which are presented to an audience. You will be involved in the process from the first stages of a production, working with other students from the specialisations in scenography, sound and stage directing to devise the overall concept for the performance and to consider how that should be reflected in its visual expression. There is a great focus on creative development and the design process, where your artistic ideas and visions can unfold.
CAREER and working life
Once you have completed the programme, you will be able to work as a lighting designer on big and small stages and performing arts projects. Most lighting designers work on a freelance basis, and there are generally very good opportunities for professionally relevant employment
