Exchange to DASPA
APPLY FOR EXCHANGE
The Danish National School of Performing Arts (DASPA) welcomes exchange students to the following programmes:
- BFA in Theatre and Performance Making (Lighting / Scenography / Sound / Stage Directing)
- BFA in Playwriting/BFA in Theatre and Performance Making (Playwriting)
- BFA in Musical Theatre
- BFA in Acting
- BFA in Dance and Choreography
- MFA in Choreography
- MFA in Dance and Participation
The programmes do not accept exchange students every semester and each programme has special conditions for the acceptance of exchange students. Some programmes only offers short term exchanges and not full semesters. Please read carefully the conditions for the specific programme you are considering applying to. You will find these conditions in the sections below.
DASPA is devoted to a student-centred approach to learning and each semester is carefully planned in order to accommodate the work of the individual students and the groups the best way possible. Due to this, each programme has special conditions for the acceptance of exchange students. Please read carefully the conditions set out for the specific programme you are considering applying to. We use the same criteria as at our ordinary entrance examinations.
HOW TO APPLY
Applications for exchange should be uploaded through DASPA's application portal. Please submit your nominations directly in your applications. DASPA does not pre-approve or reject nominations in advance.
NEXT APPLICATION DEADLINE: 15 APRIL 2025
The next application deadline for exchanges in the fall term 2025 is 15 April 2025. The application portal is open from 17 March to 15 April 2025 at noon.
Apply for short term exchanges
Applications sent by email or uploaded before or after these dates will not be taken into consideration. Neither will applications for an exchange to other semesters than the fall semester of 2025.
AUTUMN SEMESTER 2025
The semester begins in mid-August and terminates in mid-December 2025.
In order to apply for exchange to DASPA, you need to be enrolled full time at a recognised higher artistic education.
An inter-institutional exchange agreement should be organised between DASPA and your home institution prior to the beginning of the exchange.
EUROPE
DASPA cooperates with partner schools across Europe within the exchange-programmes Erasmus+ and Nordplus. If you are a student at a European institution, we advise you to consult the international office at your home institution to inquire about Erasmus+ and Nordplus funding opportunities.
European exchanges usually take place under the ERASMUS+ programme.
DENMARK
If you are a student at one of the six other higher education institutions under the Danish Ministry of Culture, you are likewise welcome to apply for exchange.
Danish students may apply on the same conditions as international exchange aspirants. Please submit your application through DASPA's application portal.
REST OF THE WORLD
If you are a student coming from an institution outside Europe or an institution that is not part of the Erasmus+ or the Nordplus programme, you are welcome to contact our international office to inquire about possible arrangements.
YOUR ONLINE APPLICATION for long term exchanges SHOULD INCLUDE:
- Letter of motivation
- Letter of nomination from your home institution
- Letter of recommendation from a mentor at your home institution
- CV including a transcript of passed studies
- Portrait photo in high resolution
- Portfolio/video of artistic work (5 minutes at a maximum)

The Bachelor’s Programme in Dance and Choreography in Holstebro welcomes 3-4 exchange students in the following semesters:
Autumn semester 2025
Exchange students will be enrolled with the second year class at DASPA (third semester).
Spring semester 2026
Exchange students will be enrolled with the second year class at DASPA (fourth semester).

short term exchange: Dance workshops

- Dates: 25 August - 5 September (week 35+36)
- Place: Campus Holstebro
- ECTS-points: 4 ECTS

- Participating students from DASPA: BFA in Dance & Choreography, second year
There is a limited possibility for long term exchanges to the Bachelor's Programme in Acting, since the language of instruction is Danish. However, DASPA does accept applications from talented and highly motivated acting students from other higher education institutions.
If you understand and speak Danish, you will most likely be able to follow all educational activities at the Acting programme in one of the school's departments situated in Aarhus, Copenhagen and Odense. If you are not proficient in Danish and are accepted for exchange, we will put together a schedule for you combining the courses taught in English across the three departments. Given the organisational and logistical challenges in this regard, we are less likely to accept non-Danish speaking students.
For the autumn semester 2025, the Bachelor's programme in Acting Odense, is offering a short term exchange for English-speaking students. Find more information below.
short term exchange: Melodrama - The Musicality of Action
A practical course in Melodrama ending in an in-house sharing. Melodrama is not seen to be an exaggerated, decadent form of drama. Rather, it is seen to be a fundamental stylistic element. It is a primitive, childlike precursor to drama that can have great value in releasing the performer's dramatic instincts, while challenging them to rediscover the musicality of everything theatrical. There is a limited possibility for exchange to the Bachelor's Programme in Musical Theatre since the language of instruction is Danish. However, DASPA does accept applications from talented and highly motivated musical theatre students from other higher education institutions.

If you are not proficient in Danish and are accepted for exchange, we will put together a schedule for you combining the courses taught in English across the three year groups. Given the organisational and logistical challenges in this regard, we are less likely to accept non-Danish speaking students.
For the autumn semester of 2025, it is unfortunately not possible invite exchange students at the Theatre and Performance Making Bachelor's Programme.
Starting from the autumn semester of 2025, the Playwriting Bachelor's Programme will only welcome exchange students for short-term courses. See info below about the short term exchange offered in the autumn semester 2025:
short term exchange: Poetic encounters
In this workshop we will explore the intersection and expansions between movement and text. Through exercises, methods and approached to spatio-temporal composition, we will delve into the poetic realm, using language and text as ways of accessing and stabilising choreographic potential – and vice versa. The participants will explore possibilities in developing their own scores and spatial compositions.

- Participating students from DASPA: BA in Playwriting second year, MA in Dance & Participation second year.
The MFA in Choreography accepts full-degree students every other year, and exchange students the second and third semester of the programme.
Exchange students are accepted in:

MFA in Dance & Participation has a biannual intake of full-degree students and welcomes exchange students on all semesters, except for the 4th and final semester, due to the individual final project of the programme.
