The Danish National School of Performing Arts is currently (fall semester 2023) in the process of developing a series of new master’s programmes planned to commence in the 2026/2027 academic year. These forthcoming programmes will be more closely aligned with the school's bachelor’s programmes and will be offered in Danish.
As a student, you are expected to participate in and actively contribute to the programme activities. There will be periods of mandatory attendance, especially during the first three semesters second semester.
All programmes are full-time studies but the daily/weekly hours varies throughout the semester depending on the nature of the courses and projects.
The master’s programmes aim to connect the courses with professional life and create networks within the professional field. That said, it is full-time studies that require attendance and flexibility from the students, and it will depend on a specific assessment of the circumstances whether a credit-bearing school project can be conducted within the framework of a professional context.
The school is obliged to follow the national regulations regarding study progress and SU (student grant) .
Creating an international network is central to all three programmes and travelling to visit partner schools, collaborators and performing arts institutions abroad is an inherent part of the master’s programmes as are the options to do an internship or even your final projects abroad.
However, travelling is not mandatory. If there are special circumstances that inhibit you from travelling, the international dimension of your education may be fulfilled through other means.
All master's programmes are primarily artistic. That said, the programmes do involve theoretical reading, and there will be some writing tasks but you are not expected to have received any training in academic writing.
At the MFA in Choreography, all projects are basically artistic, while the dissertation at the MFA in Dance and Participation includes a partially written thesis.
