Workshop with AVUÁ COLLECTIVE

Investigations on memory: a practice between visual and performing arts

In collaboration with TeaterKUNST and performer Layla Mollerup we are proud to present this interdisciplinary workshop from the Sao Paulo based company Coletivo Avuá.

AVUÁ COLLECTIVE is a Brazilian/ Sao Paulo company created  by visual artist Ana Clara Muner and actor, lighting designer and producer Lucas Pradino, that investigate the intersection between the languages of performing and visual arts and in thinking about a platform collaboration between their productions.

Coletivo Avuá is here to develop the performance DRINK Me at Aveny T.

About the workshop

The workshop “Investigations on memory: a practice between visual and performing arts” seeks to share the creative process of Coletivo Avuá, based on proposals and revisitations of personal and collective memory through old photographs for the composition of artistic materials, including scenic and visuals.

The starting point is to try various techniques that make participants work on the different layers of memory. In this sense, we start from the principle of living memory, cyclical regarding the past, present and future. It is understood that we can activate the reminiscences that inhabit corporeality and discourses based on triggers investigated throughout the workshop. How does the artistic field open up the possibility for us to revisit and reimagine those representations of the past? To what extent can we investigate a photograph to the point of understanding its complexities?

At the beginning, a theoretical and methodological scope is presented on the construction of image archives and their relationship with our personal, collective, subjective and unconscious memories. From this introduction, participants will bring an image to work on throughout the meetings and will begin to develop the textual field to provoke the first senses of remembrance of that moment portrayed. From this writing practice, the collage technique will be presented, in which participants will be able to work on a second layer of memory, revisiting and deconstructing that image archive.

This investigation will be reverberated to the scene, where small scenic cells will be formed, bringing visual research to the body. This, as an artistic composition tool in itself, carries a unique collection, encouraging each participant to investigate their potential. Finally, the installation of the
collages will be worked on, their relationship with body practices and the crossings that will arise from the occupation of this new space.

Program

Day 01 (5h)
Theoretical introduction on the construction and analysis of narratives from photographic archives within the field of memory. This part incorporates references from artists who work with archive images within their poetics, with the aim of enriching the participants’ repertoire. Textual construction based on the photographs brought by the participants.

Day 02 (5h)
Initiation in the collage technique and practical investigations of corporealities.

Day 03 (5h)
Work on the composition of each participant, bringing the intersection of visual and scenic production. Think about occupying a scenic space through the installation of collage and body practices. Presentation of the final result.
