A live investigative ritual and an installation of ritual traces
There was a nun who slept with those of us who were students") is a collaborative investigation of the potential of rituals for generating material through the mediums of scenography and literature.
Benedikte Beate Hansen, scenography student and Dorte Limkilde, author and graphic designer of books, are in this project working with the ambiguity between the restrictive and the liberating within the rituals of the monastery. Through visits and interviews at various monasteries, Dorte and Benedikte have gathered material to use in a dialogue between their respective art forms.
We work with a deep dependence between text and space, where one misses the other.
We investigate restrictive frameworks as motivation for going with our impulses.
We believe that the literary imaging is closely connected to the concrete visuality of scenography.
How can the space make the text come alive and how can the text be an activation of the space?
The project is Benedikte’s bachelor project in scenography at The Danish National School of Performing Arts.
Her collaboration partner in the project, Dorte Limkilde, has recently published her work "Een lang nat" (2022) at the publishing house Virkelig and is also a part of the writing collective BMS.

A staged investigation of collective methods
between an actor, set designer and director
The theme: We all know the world is burning. To handle our own feeling of constant crisis, we choose to turn to fairytales. Throughout history, fairytales and their characters have been used to process and symbolize challenges of humankind. Can we use fairytales to escape or tackle the reality we must face? Can we subvert fairytales to mirror the modern world? We need magicians, Kardashians, trolls, apocalypse, werewolves, pain and princesses.
The method: The showing is the result of attempts to develop methods for collectively creating material. It’s a search for a practice where performative and visual concept, character and action are created simultaneously and co-dependently

An investigation of own creativity and the purpose of newness
In which ways do I see myself expressing as a visual artist, at the same time as I stay connected to the world?
Recently I was in a collaborative project, where I experienced own participation as especially imaginative, open and vulnerable, in a way I hadn't felt before. I experienced connectedness - towards the artistic project itself, towards the people in the project, and towards the outside world.
As a visual artist, but also on a deeper human level, it is fundamental for me to sense a contact and connection towards the world. In this connectedness I find meaning and purpose. It is a state of "being within".
The expression "being within the world" comes from Gert Biesta, and some of his texts has been included in my research.
How can I be within - and in dialogue with - the world, as visual artist? When do I feel the most creative, playful and imaginative? How can I navigate within a constant desire and hunt for newness in the arts? When should i express myself? How? And why?

Research in acoustic deviation in a Copenhagen metro station
In The Birth of Physics, Michel Serres reappraised Lucretius’ theory that what preceded time and space was movement. The genesis of time and space occurred when one atom among a body of falling atoms deviated ever so minimally to gesture forward to the calculus of the infinitesimal. Through this deviation, a place was created, a contrast, which gave space for ‘something other’ to come into existence. Clinamina takes the logical absurdity of the ‘clinaman’, the deviating atom, as a metaphor for a deviating acoustic space. When a space deviates from its pre-supposed role, does it start a chain reaction, and do the inhabitants of that space also deviate from theirs? And if so, what ‘something other’ has come into existence?
A metro station is a rare, confined space within the chaotic schedule of a city where various temporalities meet. Certain patterns emerge, like that of commuters’ movement and behaviour. How would the patterns transform over time when the sonic environment ever so minimally deviates from its codified behaviour? A shift of awareness, a contrast, a brief sidestep from our conscious mind. Then, suddenly: the sound reforms to its original state. Are we still the same, or have we also shifted?
Initially intended as a live, site-specific, multi-channel sound installation in a Copenhagen metro station, this showing is Clinamina’s first iteration, presented in the acoustically rich Scenic Tower of The National Danish School of Performing Arts. It is a presentation of Clinamina’s research phase as part of Joëlle McGovern Serret’s BA project in the sound design specialisation, investigating multichannel systems and recording, acoustic manipulation, activating architecture and the semantics that derive from it.

Poetic archive for lighting design
Athenaeum is an investigation of how to create a poetic and physical method for documenting highlights of a light design process. it’s a response of a longing to move away from the computer and digital languages, and reconnect with physical touch and moonlight letters. to create an archive, to store and visit earlier discoveries; to have a catalog of starting points for collaborations, design choices and production planning. to make sure to take a step back doing a process, to reflect on the work itself and the ways of working.
athenaeum is an investigation of long-term motivation, critical poetic reflections and a space to fall in love with the core of light; atmosphere.

I
