A video installation by Anna Katrín Einarsdóttir

- final project from the MFA in Performing Arts

An existential crisis is a psychological episode in which a person questions the meaning of their life and of existence itself.

Anna Katrín Einarsdóttir (IS, b.1991) is a visual performance artist, theatre director, writer, producer, dramaturg, as well as a painter, and illustrator.

In 2019 she became part of the first master’s students at DDSKS when she started the Topography of Story program in Aarhus.

During her studies she has focused on developing her creative process using the study of consciousness as a compass, moving away from the theatre space in search for an unknown expression, by letting the subconscious and intuition lead the way in the artistic process.

Through her final project, the artist navigates the meaning of a self and existence, time and memory.

The artist has used journaling as a means of documenting and processing her life since the age of seven. Writing as a means to find stability and proof of her own existence and experiences.

The text is a combination of notes, contemplations, scientific papers, diary entries, and extractions from video journals the artist has kept for the past 3 years.

Fleeting thoughts and ideas otherwise forgotten.
The video-installation questions the linearity of time using the self as an anchor point.
