and it rained for thousands of years
Graduation performance by Manon Siv Duquesnay - Master of Fine Arts in Choreography
‘and it rained for thousands of years’ is an invitation to take your time and place in a space to remember, sense and invoke.
This performance can be seen as an assisted solo. A woman’s pregnant body with the internal presence of the baby, being assisted by the dancer manifesting her eternal fire and the sound composer bathing the space in caring sound. All this wreathed by masses of rope, beeswax and fabric, moving the bodies through practical and poetical actions.
The artwork explores rivers and their curving paths through cultural and geological layers. The river as a channel for shared actions, for memory, for wander, for fertility and vitality. An element that can be as calm and gentle as wild and powerful.
Questions of labor (as of work and as of giving birth), are arising as the river unfolds its curves, affecting and being affected by the human. A situation emerges for collectivity and participation to happen, giving play for reverie, transition, trusting and birthing.
