Inaja Katharina Skands

Inaja Katharina Skands (she/her) is a dancer, and choreographer based in Copenhagen. Working with dance and scriptwriting, as a means to generate choreography and contemporary performance through written material. Her interest lies within exploring flatscapes, myths, stories and other fantastical themes.

She is as of now working with the icons “the fool” and “the wishing table”, through which she aims to explore the body, as a vessel for the creation of endless fiction.

Her latest works are: Some Thing for me to belive (2025), GODS DEEPEST HOLE (2025) and But, I am shaped like a star (2025)

Inaja is currently studying the MFA of Choreography and holds a BFA in Dance & Choreography from The Danish National School of Performing Arts.

Some Thing for me to believe

Is a play on a play

A study of the (solo) performer, as the mediator and possible creator of myth (ology).

The piece unfolds as research on performance as translation, “acting itself out” as a self-conscious spectacle that performs its own gesture of becoming.

The performer inhabits both the role and its reflection, always shifting.

The myth unfolds as a score, staged yet fragmented.

The performance is based on a choreographic manuscript authored by Inaja K. Skands, continuing on her interest in developing choreography through written material.

GODS DEEPEST HOLE (External project)

With the opening of a hand.

A hole into nothing she falls so seamlessly that they forget to even look.

The transparent yet dark and unknown pull(s) the flat-scape deeper.

Two hands gripping it by the edges, yanking it calmly towards the back in a swift movement.

She is there.

Seen.

Seeing.

GODS DEEPEST HOLE is based on the choreographic manuscript by the same name, authored by Inaja K. Skands, continuing on her interest in developing choreography through written material.

But, I am shaped like a star (MFA 2nd semester project)

A frontal fiction of perpetual transformation, a flatscape that deepens itself before your eyes.

'But, I Am Shaped like a Star' explores the body as a vessel for fantasy — a fictitious play of mundane magic. Three dancers appear, reappear, disappear, and reveal themselves to you, as you reveal to us.

The project explores the icon(s) of the Fool and the Wishing Table, which in this context serve as symbols for representing the mundane body and the dancing body, as mediums through which ever-evolving fiction and fantasy can unfold and develop from.

The piece is based on a series of scores, continuing on Inaja’s interest in developing choreography through text(s) and written material.
