Phantoms of stability
Artistic self-instituting in the performing arts scene
How can an institution be considered based on artistic experiences and intentions - in its daily practice and as an actor in society? The starting point for this research is the artistic-research-born new artist-run performance institution "Tårnby Park Studio“. Artistic self-instituted performance spaces in Berlin and Belgrade serve as references.
With leaders of these spaces - Annett Hardegen (Vierte Welt, Berlin) and Marijane Cvetkovic (Stanica - Station for dance / Magacin, Belgrade), Andreas Liebmann establishes a dialogue about challenges and qualities of artistic self-instituting and the relation of the local work to specific areas of crises that matter in different ways to many self-instituted artistic spaces and practices in different places of the world.
The dialogue is held in sparring with performance researcher and PhD student Storm Møller-Madsen (Copenhagen University).
A first manifestation of the dialogue is the Debate day „Soft Clashes“ in the frame of Tårnby Park Studios „Tårnby Park Performance Festival“, with contributions from artists based in Sweden and Denmark (Gylleboverket, Nexus Dance, På den anden side, Kinéo 37) that work with self instituting. The day is moderated by Morten Goll, leader of Trampoline House, Copenhagen.
