Skills for Theatre Directing

Styrk dine instruktørværktøjer og scenekunstneriske blik.

Det er med stor glæde, at vi for 2. gang kan præsentere dette eksklusive undervisningsforløb med den internationalt anerkendte instruktør Katie Mitchell. 

Takket være vores samarbejde med instruktør og linjeansvarlig på Instruktion, Rune David Grue, har efteruddannelsen fået adgang til dette unikke online forløb med Katie Mitchell, der løber af stablen over 12 formiddage fordelt over 4 uger til efteråret. 

Workshoppen henvender sig til instruktøren, der gerne vil have skærpet sit håndværk, men også til den erfarne skuespiller, der arbejder som iscenesætter eller som har en ambition om det. Som deltager får du styrket dine værktøjer til forberedelse og prøvearbejde og øget din viden om instruktørens opgaver på en produktion generelt.

Igennem forløbet underviser Katie Michell i de værktøjer, hun selv bruger i sit arbejde som instruktør, fra den første forberedelse til sidste forestilling.

Du bliver introduceret til hendes metode for tekstanalyse i ti trin, som rummer blandt andet arbejde med research, karakterbiografier, hændelses- og omstændighedsanalyse. Derudover undervises der i castingteknikker, prøveforberedelse, prøvearbejde med skuespillere, arbejde med lyd og musik, tekniske prøver, sikkerhed, de ledelsesmæssige aspekter af instruktørens virke, samt vedligeholdelsen af en forestilling under spilleperioden.

I dele af undervisningen kommer du til at arbejde med på forhånd udleverede dramatiske tekster.

Skills for Theatre Directing udbydes i samarbejde med 2.års instruktion på DDSKS, samt BA-studerende fra instruktion på KHiO, Norge. Efteruddannelsen har adgang til tre pladser, som fordeles på baggrund af ansøgning og en kort motivation, se herunder.

About Katie Mitchell

Katie Mitchell (UK) has directed over 100 productions in a career spanning 30 years.

She directs mainstream text-based theatre, opera, and Live Cinema productions (a unique combination of video and theatre techniques). In the UK she has directed productions for the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre and The Royal Court - and she has been an Associate Director at all three organisations. In opera she has directed for English National Opera, Glyndebourne Opera, Welsh National Opera, and the Royal Opera House.

Since 2008 she has split her time between working in the UK and on mainland Europe in countries including Germany, France, Holland, and Scandinavia. She is currently a resident director at the Schaubuhne (Berlin), the Deutsches Schauspielhaus (Hamburg) and she has just finished a seven-year residency at the Aix-en-Provence Festival (France). In 2015 the Stadsschouwburg Theatre in Amsterdam hosted a retrospective of her work, presenting 8 productions from across Europe.

She is best known for her feminist deconstructions of classics, her formal experimentation - in particular at the intersection between theatre and film - and for being a pioneer in exploring models for making theatre about climate change.

Her many awards in the UK include 2 Time Out Awards (1990 & 1991), The Evening Standard Best Director Award (1996) and a Tonic Award for her representations of woman and nurture of female talent (2018). Her awards in Europe and beyond include 3 Theatertreffen prizes (Germany) in 2008 & 2009, an Obie Award (US) in 2009, 2 Golden Mask Awards (Russia) in 2011 & 2019, the Stanislavsky Internation Prize (Russia) in 2014, The New Theatrical Realities, Europe Prize in 2014, Best Director for 2019 at the International Opera Awards.  

She was presented with the Order of the British Empire (OBE) 2009 and the British Academy's President's Medal in 2017 for her services to theatre.

She is currently Professor of Theatre Directing at Royal Holloway University where teaches on an MA directing course and a Visiting Lecturer on the Theatre Directing MFA at Columbia University. She has taught theatre directing at many of the leading drama schools in the UK and Europe.
