We are staging a thematically relevant and personal interpretation of the novel “Mephisto” by Klaus Mann. We want to point out the loop in history: power structures, racism and social dysfunctions in society. The character Mephisto represents the role of an artist - of someone who is making decisions in the name of art, desire and passion, but at the same time has a need to survive and thrive. Showing rawness, the fragile human being, to let people sympathize with the artist and the choices one makes, we question what is our responsibility as artists? The project brings together dance, technology and language to redesign the traditional form of Tanztheater and create a new type of Gesamtkunstwerk.
