Masterclass in London with Judy Kuhn
May 15th-17th, 2019.
We are thrilled to invite musical performers and actors to this exclusive masterclass in London with four-time Tony Award–nominee Judy Kuhn - known for her many performances on Broadway and for Disney’s Pocahontas.
In addition to the masterclass, we will see Fiddler on the Roof at West End.
“Judy Kuhn is one of the most remarkable interpreters of musical theatre songs it has ever been my pleasure to work with. Her unerring ability to express the author's intention and yet add her personal heart and soul to a piece has led me to go on record as calling her ‘a lyricist's dream’. I can't think of a more valuable teacher for anyone looking to learn the art of singing musical theatre.”
- Stephen Schwartz, Wicked, Godspell, Pippin, Pocahontas.
Acting the song - masterclass with Judy Kuhn
The program includes a two-day masterclass (Wednesday and Friday, four hours each day) on song interpretation and vocal performance.
The masterclass is for musical performers and for the singing actors (or actors who want to sing) that focuses on song interpretation and vocal performance.
Judy Kuhn works individually with the participants on material of their choice addressing performance techniques such as focus and relationship with an audience. You will improvise and work on personalization, deep exploration of text and learn how to “speak” a song. Although this is not a vocal technique class, Judy will address individual technical concerns and make suggestions about how to approach working on them.
Starting each day there will be a group physical warm-up in which you work on breath, support and centering exercises.
Participants should come ready to play, feel free to experiment with material and hopefully will leave with a sense of freedom and self-assurance when walking into an audition or on stage to sing a song.
Fiddler on the Roof
Also included in the program is the musical Fiddler on the Roof starring Judy Kuhn.
The Broadway production of the show is currently playing at the The Menier Chocolate Factory and will be transferring to the West End (Playhouse Theatre) in late March. We will see the performance on Thursday afternoon (or Thursday evening).
The price includes masterclass with Judy Kuhn and theater ticket for Fiddler on the Roof at Playhouse Theatre.
Flight, accommodation and meals are NOT included in the price.
It is not required that participants stay at the same hotel, nor is it a requirement to travel at the same time. Information on our choice of flight and hotel will follow soon.
The exact time schedule and address for the masterclass venue will also follow soon. We expect the first class to start in the afternoon on Wednesday, May 15, so that it will be possible to fly to London from Kastrup in the morning.
More info will follow, so stay tuned and do not hesitate to contact Stine Marcher on firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
